E-commerce is great

Our new DELL Computers arrived yesterday at the office. Brand new desktops with enough memory and large flast screens. We placed the order last Tuesday, and they arrived only 6 days later, built to order, about 8 days early of the previsionnal date on the order form.

Isn't it great :) ? the only thing I had to do offline was to negotiate a special price with my account manager at DELL, that I've known for some time now. It always helps to create good relationships with your suppliers, as they can sometimes pull out special deals for you :)

Next step, install the stuff (we have just joined a special program at Microsoft, so we are also BUYING our software), and get back to normal work, with better working conditions !

4 years already that Ingrid Betancourt is a hostage

Can you imagine what 4 years are ? If you were 4 years younger ? If you hadn’t lived your last 4 years as a free human being ? Actually leave everyone else uninformed about your life ?

Ingrid Betancourt was taken hostage over 4 years ago. And so have many more thousands of innocents in the jungles of Columbia. Time to remember them and do something.

RSS: Benjamin Rassat is shooting a movie on the Net economy

Benjamin Rassat is a happy man: after starting a sports dotcom, he left to Brazil to enjoy the virtues of music, sports and everything else has to offer. A couple of years ago, he released a documentary on the tennis world, and some of my pro friends say it is very vey good.

Now the man is back, and is shooting a 52’ documentary on the net-economy: he is trying to proove that bloggers are the enablers of a new Bubble. Whatever his theory (and the film should be released in June), he is a very nice person to have a chat with.

He’s been talking and filming an impressive number of French net-economy figures (over 20 already): Anne-Sophie Pastel (aufeminin.com), Marc Simoncini (meetic.com), Gilles Babinet (formerly with Musiwave), Jean-Michel Billaut (formerly with l’atelier), etc.

Barcelona World Race press conference

I had the great honour of joining some living legends for lunch on Friday, during the press conference (about 12 people only) for the launch of the Barcelona World Race.

Mark Turner, from OC Events (and Ellen MacArthur’s business partner) had invited the specialised sailing press to talk about his new event, a 2–crew round the world sailing race, to start on November 11th, 2007.

I know nothing about the sailing world nor their icons, code and language, but was really impressed by the simplicity of these guys, their courage, and their sympathy. Pierre-Yves dragged me there, and it was a delight. The Burgundy was very good too, thanks Abigaëlle!

Pierre-Yves asked me to videoblog 3 interviews of Mark Turner, Roland Jourdain, and Jean-Pierre Dick: you’ll find these shortly on his blog: blogs.lexpress.fr/aularge.

In the meantime, you have to go and watch the 15’ movie presenting the race on the official site. It’s just great !

Christian is the man currently co-organising the Capital-IT conference, ie selecting and coaching start-ups joining the conference. He's also aiming at lining up over 100 industrial partners in the room, extending the concept of a VC/startup conference to a showcase of innovation conference. We started of our chat with his background before going into the nitty gritty of thea application form for Capital-IT.
