Via the InsideGoogle blog:
“Google has switched the video delivery over at Google Video entirely over to Flash, a surprise decision that basically ends the use of the upstart Google Video Player. Still, it does mean basically all browsers and platforms should now be able to view Google videos, and the videos are much larger and of a higher quality. Mac users rejoice!”
Just stumbled upon this. Makes totally sense to me, and has already done so to a number of other people, including VideoEgg and DailyMotion that already use flash video for their rendering online. Flash players are present today in virtually 100% of browsers, and this moves opens up Google’s video content directly to all platforms such as WinXX, MacOS and linux.
Too bad for the VLC guys, I still like their software (with a different skin than the default one of course), but playing within the browser as flash does offers a much more versatile experience, and opens new opportunities.
