Last november 2004 I wrote:
“ How come that there is still no VC money behind the BitTorrent project (downloads here)? I truly believe that it has an enormous potential to disrupt the Internet and traditional streaming business models as much as Napster in its time or Skype nowadays. ”
Well, Om brings an aswer today:
“ Finally there is confirmation of what I had earlier reported - BitTorrent , according to regulatory filing dated September 12, has raised $8.75 million in a Series A funding round led by DCM-Doll Capital Management. Money, I am sure will be used for offering legit services. more details here via Silicon Beat. ”
DCM’s site is here, and doesn’t show the investment yet, although they have invested in the past in a number of network related startups, including Foundry networks.
So now the questions are:
- what was the valuation ?
- who else got to invest in this round?
- who got kicked out for submitting a shabby term sheet?
- what are they going to do with the money ?
