Among many many other unbearable stories of hostages (including today the 92 days of captivity of French journalists Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot), today is the sad annivesary of the 1000 days of captivity of former Colombian presidential candidate, Ingrid Betancourt (press release here).
It reminds us that liberty has a price, that others pay for us. I have watched and heard her daughter Mélanie Betancourt campaign for Ingrid's liberation for at least 2 years: an amazing strength, calm, and sheer will commands that 18-year old girl.
If you want to show them support, a gathering is planned tonight at 19h15 in Paris, on the Parvis des Droits de l'Homme, métro Trocadero. Be there.
